Insurance
Many insurance companies require a referral and/or pre-certification for diagnostic imaging studies. It is the responsibility of the patient and referring physician's office to obtain approval in advance. Our Authorization/Referral Department will work with you and your referring doctor's office to obtain the necessary referral or precertification. However, failure to obtain the required information may result in non-reimbursement from the insurance company or delay in treatment.
Please note:It is advisble for patients to consult with the referring doctor's office prior to scheduling an appointment for CT, MRI, PET/CT or Nuclear Medicine scans as these studies usually require prior approval from the insurance company or a third party administrator contracted by the health plan. Generally speaking, patients should allow a minimum of 48 hours for all pre-certifications. Emergency or urgent pre-certifications can sometimes be obtained by the referring physician's office within 3 business hours, if medically necessary. Additional clinical information may be required for certain studies. Each time additional clinical information is required by the pre-cert company, the proccess will be delayed an additional 3 business days from the time they receive the information.
