Sonography/Ultrasound : Preparation Guidelines | Hysterosonogram Preparation
Please note for all exams:
- Please bring anything in writing from your referring doctor. • Please leave all valuables at home
Abdomen
- No food for 6 hours prior to your exam, you can drink water (only).
Abdomen & Pelvis
- No food for 6 hours prior to your exam. • Start drinking 32oz of water (only) 1.5 hours prior to your exam. Drink for 30 mins. • Do not urinate after drinking water, you must have fluid in your bladder for this exam.
Breast Biopsy/Needle/FNA
- No Aspirin for 7 days prior to your exam. • If you are taking any blood thinners please call our office prior to scheduling your exam.
Gallbladder
- No food for 6 hours prior to your exam, you can drink water (only).
Hip Sonogram (Infants only)
- Withhold feeding 1 hour prior to exam • Please bring bottle/pacifier to help your child to be comfortable and calm during the exam.
Liver
- No food for 6 hours prior to your exam, you can drink water (only).
Obstetrical Sono (6wks to 12wks)-(1.5 mths-3mths)
- Start drinking 32oz of water (only) 1.5 hours prior to your exam. Drink for 30 mins. • Do not urinate after drinking water, you must have fluid in your bladder for this exam.
Obstetrical Sono (12wks to 36wks)-(3 mths-9mths)
- Start drinking 16oz of water (only) 1.5 hours prior to your exam. Drink for 30 mins. • Do not urinate after drinking water, you must have fluid in your bladder for this exam.
Pelvic
- Start drinking 32oz of water (only) 1.5 hours prior to your exam. Drink for 30 mins. • Do not urinate after drinking water, you must have fluid in your bladder for this exam.
Renal Only (Kidneys)
- No preparation needed.
Renal & Pelvic
- Start drinking 32oz of water (only) 1.5 hours prior to your exam. Drink for 30 mins. • Do not urinate after drinking water, you must have fluid in your bladder for this exam.
Transvaginal
- No preparation needed.
Thyroid Fine Needle
- No Aspirin for 7 days prior to your exam.
- If you are taking “Coumandin” (blood thinners) or have bleeding problems please call our office prior to scheduling your exam.
